Zabriskie Point
Sharpie, old calanders, 9in x 4in, 2024
I made "Zabriskie Point" as a gift to one of my professors who retired recently. Zabriskie Point is one of his favorite sites in Death Valley and one my class got to visit in spring 2022.
For this collage, I used pieces of cut up calanders and sharpies to mimic the contours and shadows of Zabriskie Point.

Sea Glass
Tissue paper, scrap paper, 2018
Smooth and sharp, "Sea Glass" mixes meandering lines and crisp angles, cool colors with blood red, crowded space vs emptiness, to create an off-putting scene. Something innocuous is quite the opposite. Sometimes things that normally provide comfort can unexpectedly be used to hurt us. This piece depicts one instance where that was the case for me.

Keep Calm and do your Homework
Printed images, marker, pastels, pencil shavings, 2018
While in high school, I had a lot going on: orchestra, Rutgers Choir, figure skating, a studio course, a job, volunteer work, SAT prep, college applications, learning to drive, friends, and A LOT of schoolwork. Most nights, I was up until 1 a.m. or later, trying to finish everything. I was so sleep-deprived that I once blacked out in gym class. My classmates were similarly overwhelmed. Our school just told us to sleep more in response to students' complaints. How were we meant to do that if there was no time? Out of frustration, I created this collage to critique our school system and the expectations put upon us and express our desperation and weariness.
