Artist Statement
Though perhaps inaudible, if you look closely enough, rocks tell us a lot about the world; even pebbles have something to say about history. Sometimes I feel like a pebble. Small, squished, taking up the least amount of space, and not garnering the attention of anything besides stomping shoes and heavy tires. Through printmaking, I found I can be as loud and determined as a boulder or as repetitive and resilient as tephra. I create as a form of resistance against the inner and outer voices that have made me feel unimportant. As one of many former “weird” kids, I use bright colors, playful shapes, and my knowledge of geology, geography, and the environment to comment on the social and political systems that bind us and my personal experience as someone within them.
