"Technically, it's a Chair"

Cardboard, hot glue, 44.5in x 26.25in, 2019

As the final assignment for one of my courses I was tasked with creating a sturdy chair made from cardboard that would fit an environment within Mount Holyoke College's library. "Technically, it's a Chair" was measured to snugly fit within one of the library's private call rooms. This piece takes inspiration from the architecture and style of the building it's located within, mimicking stained glass and old craftsman furniture. This style conflicts with the modern whiteboard present in the private call room. Both to highlight this odd mingling of time periods and further its place within the space viewers were encouraged to draw and write on the chair as they would the whiteboard.

To Split

Cardboard, hot glue, 2019

"To Split" depicts the gory aftermath of a separation or perhaps a desperate escape from something unsavory. The rips, cuts, and tares in the letter G, along with the scrap pieces on the floor representing a slow crawl away, create an uncomfortable and frightening image. Even after leaving, one can still feel the effects of the before.

This piece was another assignment; we were tasked with creating a cardboard sculpture of our first initial. We then had to pick a verb out of a hat. I received "to split".
